Objective: The owners of the restaurant wanted to utilize their outdoor area to feel like an extension of the indoor space. They also wanted to create a more intimate feeling without blocking off the neighboring restaurant and community.

We started redoing the area with these guidelines by adding plants. The new border garden allowed the space to feel more welcoming, but also separate from the entrance of the neighboring restaurant. For structure we used a mix of river birch and small evergreens. In addition we added perennials & annuals for color and texture. Next we added a small wooden deck, and sod to the area where their fire pits sat. As a result it created 3 more sections for patrons to sit and enjoy their drinks.

To finish off the space we planted up the existing containers, and added custom benches. The containers will be changed seasonally to add continuous color and  excitement to the space.  Finally the custom benches were added. They were created by a local furniture maker, and made with the same tiles that the restaurant used around the bar. As a result the space finally feels like a part of the restaurant, but also a part of the community.
